Senior Jaydon Bromfield completes a turn in the Coppell meet on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The swim team has had a good start to the season, and with more than half of the meets already complete head coach Thomas Gargan has high hopes for the remaining meets including district.

“I’m hoping to have swimmers qualify for regionals and state, which we will,” Gargan said. “Kara Eisenmann is a junior and has represented LHS at the state meet the last two years and should go this year. Ethan McGee went to state his sophomore year and he is hoping to make it back.”

With the boys and girls placing first and third respectively in the Irving Spring meet, third and fourth respectively at Nacogdoches, second at the Denton relays, and both beating five of the eight teams they went up against in duels and tri’s, junior Kara Eisenmann said it took a lot of dedication to do this.

“The team this year has really stepped it up,” Eisenmann said. “I’m honored to be a part of a team that strives for success. Our team is committed to hard work, and it’s really paying off.”

Eisenmann has been breaking and setting new records for the swim team since she joined her freshman year.

“Since I’ve joined the team I have broken nine records,” Eisenmann said. “It feels great. Not everything is about the times or the wins; it’s about the experience and opportunity it brings.”

To prepare for each meet Gargan said the team practices about two hours a day, swimming around an average of two to three miles a day. Senior Jaydon Bromfield said the team has been doing great and has been having the best times.

“At the beginning of the season our coach times how fast we can swim 75 yards as a benchmark,” Bromfield said. “Periodically as the season progresses we get timed again to see how we’ve improved, and the majority of team members have had large drops in their times.”

The team is participating in the TISCA invitational this weekend at the Westside Aquatic Center behind the Harmon campus, alongside the Marcus High School and Flower Mound High School swim teams.

“It’s one of the largest meets the teams participate in during the season,” Bromfield said. “The meet is very selective with fast time standards to be able to compete, but our relays and a few individuals have a good shot at making it to finals and possibly placing.”

The meet started today at 11:45 this morning and will end around 4:30 this evening; tomorrow it begins at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude around 2:30 in the afternoon.
