Farmers desire to set pace
With playoffs around the corner, team looks to finish in top four
After a defeat to Southlake Carroll [5-1], the Farmers [3-3] look to rise up once again in the hunt for the playoffs against the underestimated Byron Nelson Bobcats [1-5] at Northwest ISD Stadium tonight at 7:30. During last Friday’s game the Farmers struggled against the powerhouse of Southlake Carroll and fell 7-49 at home.
Byron Nelson pulled off a big upset last week by defeating top seed Euless Trinity 21-20 in overtime play. With that victory Byron Nelson climbed up to fifth place, while Lewisville dropped to seventh place in the standings.
Defensive lineman coach Jong Lee expects a motivated Byron Nelson team to come out. The players know they can’t underestimate the Bobcats after last weeks result.
“[The Bobcats] should come out fired up after beating Trinity in overtime,” Lee said. “After a 0-5 start to the season, their playoff hopes are back alive.”
The Farmers have been using every day of this week to improve on what is needed for the upcoming game. Maintaining their pace is what the boys are working on to finish strong.
“We need to improve on being more consistent,” senior offensive lineman Jaquise Howard said. “When we face adversity we need to learn how to overcome in and keep rolling.”
Also personal improvements are being worked on throughout the week.
“Being able to put pressure on the quarterback constantly is something I’m working on to improve on,” senior linebacker Kenneth Momah said.
The playoff chase is getting intense in the 5-6A district. The Farmers are looking to finish off strong and accomplishing the goals that were set at the beginning of the season. Winning the last four games can be key in reaching playoffs.
“Our goal is to make playoffs,” senior kicker Kevin Vasquez said. “Then we can take it step by step once we reach there.”
