Senior libero Aaliyah Scott hit a 500 dig milestone and was recognized at the varsity volleyball game against The Colony on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Q: How long have you been playing volleyball for the school?
A: “Four years–my whole high school career.”
Q: What or who got you into volleyball?
A: “My middle school coach. My whole life I’ve been playing basketball, but she was like ‘You’re so athletic. Just try [volleyball].’ So I tried it, and I had a lot of fun.”
Q: What did your team or coaches do for your milestone of 500 digs?
A: “The [team] surprised me with a big poster with my picture on it and 500. They also announced me at our game, and I knew nothing about it.”
Q: What helped you reach that milestone?
A: “Most definitely my support system: my mom, my two coaches and my teammates of course. Without them, I wouldn’t play volleyball.”
Q: How have your coaches and teammates influenced the way you play?
A: “They influenced me a lot, negatively and positively, mostly positively. Volleyball is definitely not an individual sport, so you’ve got to have a good team and a good foundation to keep going.”
Q: Who is your biggest supporter?
A: “My mom, she’s at every game no matter what. She was in Mexico last week and we played Friday, so she pulled it up on a TV and was watching me.”
Q: What is your biggest goal for your volleyball future?
A: “Just to go as far as I can and be the best volleyball player I can be. It’s going to have to end one day, so I really want to go out with a bang.”
Q: Do you plan on doing volleyball in college?
A: “Yeah, I’m going to keep my eyes open because I do play basketball too. Whichever one is better for me, I’m going to do it.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of your volleyball career?
A: “Definitely hitting that 500 [digs] milestone. I didn’t expect that; I didn’t think I could do it. I don’t think I’m as good as I actually am, but when I hit it, I thought to myself, ‘Dang.’”
