The track teams have completed their first half of the 2024 season. The team looks to continue the momentum going into the second half. The next track meet for the team will be on Friday, March 22.
“It has been a fun, competitive season so far,” head track coach Emmanuel Mallam said. “The team has been working hard and improving each meet.”
Senior Sydnee Wilson has stuck out to Mallam the first half of her senior season.
“Wilson has come out strong in her senior year,” Mallam said. “She ran a strong 200m race at the Hebron Hawk Invitational claiming first overall.”
Wilson ran 24.83 seconds in the women’s 200 meter at the Hebron Hawk invitational, clinching first place.
“I’m hitting a lot of new PR’s and running faster than I ever have before,” Wilson said. “I think I’m doing pretty well.”
The Farmers hosted their own track meet on Thursday, Feb. 25.
“We had it earlier than we ever have before,” Mallam said. “It was crazy getting everything setup like workers and donations. I was glad for the turnout we had from other teams and also the help we had during the meet to make it go smoothly.”
Fasusi threw 128 feet, 11 inches in the home discus event clinching fifth place, as well as first place in shot put throwing 48 feet, 8 inches. He was accompanied by juniors Rhyan Sewell who placed second with 46 feet, 3 inches, and Sean Oliver who placed third 44 feet, 1 inch, giving the team a clean sweep of the top three placements.
The Farmers felt a huge boost from having the track meet at home.
“I think it felt great,” senior Michael Fasusi said. “[The] atmosphere was really amazing. I think we did a great job.”
