The boys basketball team (11-10 overall, 2-3 District) will be on the road against Plano West (18-6, 4-1) tonight. The team is regrouping from back-to-back losses on the road against Plano East and at home against Marcus.
Coach Gary Collier broke down his team’s performance in a 41-35 loss to the nationally-ranked Marauders.
“We could’ve finished a bit better,” Collier said. “Didn’t communicate on screens very well and missed a lot of free throws. We did defend well in the second half and were much more patient on offense.”
Collier also recognizes what his team has improved on throughout the season and what still needs improvement.
“There’s still plenty of room for improvement,” Collier said. “We’re not even near where I’d like to be, but we’re getting better each week. Just need to keep building.”
Senior Ryan Bowie, the team’s leading scoring (13.9 points per game), will miss the remainder of the season with torn cartilage in his knee.
Collier acknowledged the presence that Bowie had this season before his injury.
“We don’t have that extra scorer anymore,” Collier said. “Most of the time we could depend on Ryan to finish shots and be a consistent offensive threat.”
Senior Ray Dorsey, the team’s second leading scorer (12.6 PPG), shared his thoughts on Bowie’s injury and how it has affected the team.
“He’s our leading scorer, so having him gone isn’t going to help us whatsoever,” Dorsey said. “We’re all just going to have to step up and play much more aggressive than usual. It’s not the size of the dog that matters — it’s the size of his fight.”
