Gilmore’s Scoops opened its doors in the heart of Old Town and serves ice cream from Beth Marie’s, a local company from Denton, TX. Founded by Tanya Gilmore and T.J. Gilmore, this spot has a welcoming atmosphere that resembles the Art Nouveau style, which the founder built the shop around.
Art Nouveau is an art movement popular during the 1880s until World War I, inspired by nature and characterized by its flowing, organic lines. The founder was inspired by a high school trip to Paris, France. Walking in, customers are greeted with a hot fudge sundae mural, soft jazz music and a plethora of ice cream flavors and options on the menu.

The menu consists of cones, cups, floats, shakes and sundaes, with flavors including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, butter pecan, cookie dough, bubblegum, peanut butter fudge, cinnamon, cookies and creme, cafe latte, rocky road, really raspberry, dark sunset and mango sorbet. Fall’s seasonal flavors include campfire s’mores, granny’s pumpkin pie, apple pie, trick or treat and horchata sorbet.
A junior scoop costs $3, single for $5, double for $8 and a flight for $10 (a flight is four junior scoops of flavors of your choice in a bowl). Floats and milkshakes are made from any ice cream flavor for $8. Sundaes come in two sizes; a single sundae comes in at $8 and a double sundae comes in at $10, and they include whipped cream, cherry and your choice of three toppings.
Dark sunset has a flavor palette that represents orange crémé chocolates from a heart shaped chocolate box you would give to your crush on Valentine’s Day, and the ice cream includes cutlets of chocolate that make it complete.
Trick or treat has a flavor palette that paints the base as an orange-vanilla, with a mix of chocolate, peanut butter and a hint of crunch that can truly make you fast forward to Halloween night with your friends.
Whenever you want to try something new, something local, and enjoy a new hangout spot or find a fresh place for a date, Gilmore’s Scoops shows promise of becoming a staple in the Old Town community. This gets a 8.5/10 since it comes in as clean and classic.
