‘Mind-blowing’ opportunity
Student artists to show work at Brookhaven gallery
A select group of art students will showcase their work in a gallery exhibition at Brookhaven Community College starting tonight. The artwork will be on display in the studio gallery until June 2.
The opening reception for the show will be today from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Art teacher Nicole Franczvai said this event is the important for the students and is excited for it.
“The work that the students make here at Lewisville High School needs to be seen by people other than the people here in school,” Franczvai said. “It’s important for us to work in the community. These students are getting gallery space. This is a professional gallery; it’s crazy. It blows my mind. It’s a big deal.”
Senior Johanna Aguirre, who plans to attend Brookhaven Community College, is showcasing her watercolor painting called Mad.
“I feel pleased with myself that I am put up with other kids who also got put up as well,” Aguirre said.
Junior Rachel Keese, who plans to continue working in art, is showcasing her heart assignment piece.
“I’m really excited; I really love seeing everyone’s art together and I like seeing mine,” Keese said.
In the future, the art teachers plan to keep a close relationship with Brookhaven, because they see it as a perfect place for their students to go. Also depending on the turnout tonight, this gallery show might turn into an annual thing.
“There’s no promises; this is our tester year, but I hope that it will work,” Franczvai said. “But all that matters to me is that the kids produce great work and they deserve to be seen.”
