Review: Tin Man Diner attempts to bring gourmet pizza to Old Town
New restaurant offers New York and Brooklyn style cuisine
A new family-friendly pizza parlor, Tin Man Diner, opened in Old Town on Thursday, Feb. 22. The restaurant offers various types of pizza and wonderful mouthwatering milkshakes. It is open every day except Sunday and features live music on Fridays. As this is the first location, the owners look forward to expanding outside of Lewisville in the near future.
When entering the restaurant customers are greeted with the choice of inside or outside seating. The menu consists of 30 types of pizza toppings and also offers chicken wings and a fresh salad bar. The pizza slices come in either a small order of four slices or a large of eight slices. The pizzas are fairly large so sharing may be the best option.
The pizza prices are reasonably affordable; pizzas range from $8 to $13, yet extra toppings add on $1 to $2. The chicken wings listed on the menu come in a variety of flavors including garlic Parmesan, sweet and spicy Asian, honey chile and the house special balsamic glaze. Each order of chicken cost $11 per pound. The restaurant also offers red and white wine along with beer.
However, the downside to the restaurant experience is that the food takes close to a lifetime to be ready; it was long enough to consume four cups of Sprite before the food even arrived to the table. The lack of uniqueness from any other pizza place also doesn’t draw the attention of many to the restaurant.
The restaurant receives its inspiration from the New York and Brooklyn style cuisine. According to the manager, their most popular crust is the Miss American Pie, which provides customers with a thicker, sweet crust. Although the selections fall short of gourmet cuisine and the prices are too high for the food quality, the decent customer service and tolerable experience make up for the downsides.
Tin Man Diner offers a different take on pizza and milkshakes by creating and combining uncommon flavors. The restaurant provides a new environment for those who love comfort food and trying new things. With improvements to make on the customer service and food appearance, Tin Man Diner deserves a 5/10 rating as of now, yet time will only tell the future of this start-up eatery.
