In honor of Halloween season, the theater department has chosen to perform “The Addams Family.” Each member of the Addams family has their own wicked ways, and to represent one of the characters the cast must be able to bring out their evil sides onto the stage.

“Getting into [character as Morticia Addams] was hard at first because she is such a prime and proper character,” senior theater president Miquela Lopez said. “Obviously she has a clear dark side and that’s the opposite of me but she is definitely very passionate and I related to that.”

Whether the students have leads or small roles, every little mistake can cause delays in the rehearsals. A strong performance requires everyone to practice with all their energy, whether at rehearsal or at home.

“We expect a lot not just from the leads, [but also] from everyone because everyone on that stage is important,” director Wendy Brozek said. “They have to do the basics like learning their lines, dances and work at home and then show up to rehearsals to be ready to perfect the show and make it how it has to be.”

Because there is a bigger cast this year the students have issues with the small amount of space on stage and behind the stage, but they are able to continue moving forward with the space they have.

“It’s kind of difficult to manage 50 people [with] one director but everybody is working hard to give good rehearsals [and] we all are doing pretty good,” senior Anna Cantu said.

The cast practices every weekday going as late as 9 or 10 p.m. Even after long rehearsals the actors go home to rehearse on what they believe they need improvement on.

“I’ve been at home several times and my parents have asked me to be quiet because I will just be singing my songs or upstairs in my room practicing the dance,” Lopez said.

“The Addams Family” performance will be playing on Oct. 26, 27 and 29 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. The tickets are available now and cost $10 and the premium reserved cost $15.

“We chose ‘The Addams Family’ because we decided we wanted to do something fun around Halloween time and ‘Addams Family’ certainly fits that theme,” Brozek said.
