Senior Goodbye: Accomplishing something big for myself
‘I also have friends who will never leave my side and they are the type of people I want to keep in my life.’
Ever since I arrived at LHS, I have been excited to graduate. Now that it’s less than two weeks away, I’m feeling nervous that I’m finally an adult but am thrilled that I accomplished something big for myself.
The adjustment:
My senior year changed me a lot. I started to feel more like an adult. My responsibility became a lot bigger when I got a job at McDonald’s. I had to find a way to balance both work and school which was a bit of a struggle in the beginning. But I am proud of myself for managing to keep my grades golden while working at the same time.
The life changing class:
I was surprised when I got put in a theater class my senior year. I really didn’t want to go there at all knowing how shy I was. There was no other option because I needed to take this class to graduate. I had to stay, but it wasn’t my first time in theater. I willingly chose theater when I was in middle school because I thought was going to make me more open. Being in theater this year turned out to be really helpful and interesting. I learned how to remember my lines when I perform in public which is helpful when I have presentations and I also learned how to speak up when I’m presenting. I’m actually glad I took theater arts.
The story of friends:
I’ve made new friends and also ended up losing some, especially after we didn’t have classes together. I also have friends who will never leave my side and they are the type of people I want to keep in my life forever. There has been drama between my friends this year but I managed to always find a way out of it. During my last year in high school I started to focus on my school work and I succeeded at turning in my work on time. I’m really enjoying my last weeks of school. I’m not sure what’s yet to come after I graduate, but I do know I’m going to college.
The first step to new things:
I tried something different this year, I joined FarHar newspaper. I thought about joining it because I believe everyone has an interesting story to tell. I honestly never thought I could join newspaper because my job kept me busy and I had trouble with punctuation. I asked Mrs. Pinkham if I could actually do it; she believed I could which made me start to believe in myself.
The ideas:
I honestly still don’t know what I want to do for my career. I have had a lot of ideas but I can’t stick with one. I remember I wanted to be a detective, computer engineer, journalist, film producer and now a photographer; while I’m still unsure, I do know I want to do something big – something that will leave my mark in the world.
The goodbye:
So I thank all my teachers in the past and the present for the help they provided. I’d like to thank Ms. Edwards for helping me be more confident speaking in front of the class during presentations, and I thought it was really cool seeing you act a detective scene — it looked so real. I’d also like to thank Mrs. Johnson. I liked walking into your class knowing it was going to be an interesting period and how you taught everything step by step until we understood the problem. Mrs. Pinkham I thank you for believing in me when I didn’t. I had a fascinating time being part of the FarHar staff. Thank you LHS and to all the teachers who I didn’t mention which doesn’t make them any less appreciated.
