New volleyball coach ready to get started

New head volleyball coach Libby Rodriguez brings a successful resume from Pampa High School, where her teams had a winning record of 92-56, won the last two district titles, and were ranked 12th in the state.

“We are thrilled to have Mrs. Rodriguez join the coaching staff at LHS,” Principal Brad Burns said. “I’m excited to see what next year’s season holds with her leading the Lady Farmers.”

Rodriguez, a graduate of Marcus, earned her Bachelor of Science from West Texas A&M University, and as a player there, she was a three-time conference champion. She also made four regional appearances, two Elite Eight appearances, and one Final Four appearance. She was named Lone Star All-Conference, American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region, and AVCA All-American.

“I’m very excited to be a part of the Farmer family and bring a winning tradition to the Lady Farmer volleyball program,” Rodriguez said. “I want to thank Mr. Burns, and the rest of the LHS team for this opportunity. Even though I once wore red and black to the ‘Battle of the Axe,’ maroon and white now runs through my veins. Go Farmers.”

Rodriguez and her family will transition to Lewisville this spring.

“I’m ready to be here, so just kind of counting down the days,” Rodriguez said.

Being from this area, Rodriguez said she believes it will help her with coaching here.

“Well, I think just being a part of the Lewisville system, knowing how things work, knowing the town, and knowing the type of kids that are here and also who we are up against [helps],” Rodriguez said. “There’s no reason why Lewisville can’t be competing in this district.”

During the offseason, Rodriguez plans on using her coaching style to get the girls ready for the new season.

“I really do try to get to know my players on a personal level, and really relate to them,” Rodriguez said. “And I’m pretty intense. I can’t help it. I just have a lot of passion for the game and for the girls. So yeah, I’m pretty intense, I believe in hard work, and out-working your opponent.”

The volleyball team will be working hard to prepare for their opponents next season.

“We are going to definitely master our fundamentals and defense,” Rodriguez said. “I’m a big defensive-minded person, and you know [if] you want to win championships, your defense and ball control have to be up to par.”
