Lewisville [4-3 overall, 3-2 in district] continues to fight for a playoff spot after winning the homecoming game against Plano West [2-5, 1-4].

Last week marked an important game for the Farmers as they faced one of many obstacle teams on their way to the playoff brackets. Plano West managed to stop the passing game by holding Lewisville down to only 25 total passing yards all game. However, the running game remained strong and helped pull the team through with 277 rushing yards.

Coming into tonight’s game with back to back wins, Lewisville moves forward to face Plano East [5-2, 3-2], opponents who stand with equal district record but stand higher in the district chart. East presents a slight challenge to the Farmers because they have beat some of the same teams, while also losing to the same teams. Head football coach Gregg Miller sees the challenge but isn’t too concerned.

“They are really good, but so are we,” Miller said. “It’s an important game for both of us.”

East has a strong passing game in comparison to their ground game. They double their yards in the air most games, while averaging 2.8 sacks on defense. Lewisville is flipped on offense, doubling their rushing yards in comparison to their passing yards, while averaging 3.7 sacks on defense.

“[The passing game is] gonna be a lot on our defensive backs, but I think they are up for the challenge,” head defensive coordinator Austin Kaehn said. “We have done some different things this week, and maybe the weather can help us out a little bit.”

Plano East has successfully stopped other schools’ running games. The Farmers will have to resort to senior quarterback Aubreion Bobb more often than previous games. The last time Lewisville passed more than 200 yards was against Marcus High School [7-1, 5-1] when they managed 404 yards all game. While the running game will be difficult, senior running back Dontae McGee is confident the team will pull through in all aspects.

“We just need to keep doing what we have been doing,” McGee said. “We have a really good offensive line with Denzel Okafor, and all the other big guys up front. They really only have one linebacker we have to watch out for on the run.”

Come to Tom Kimbrough Stadium tonight at 7:30 to support the Fighting Farmers as they battle their way into the playoffs.
