Sophomore Cooper Hopkin prepares to hit a forehand during practice on Monday, March 2.

Starting the spring season, the tennis team began with two cancelled games due to weather regulations. The team’s first tournament was at Marcus on Friday, Feb.7, after the cancellations. After that, they went on to play another one on Friday, Feb. 21, which was hosted by Flower Mound High School

“In our spring tennis season, we are in tournament play with many different schools in Texas,” head coach Deanna Johnson said. “The draws have been large and we have had great matches against several competitive schools. We have had several players win medals this season and expect more wins going forward.”

This season, the team has learned to work as one for the upcoming games

“All [of] my peers inspire me,” senior co-captain Sasha Jennings said. “The way they work so hard and they’re always focused. They inspire me, motivate me [and] They’re really good people all around.”

With an upcoming tournament hosted by Coppell on Friday, March 6, the team is ready to put in its all to win the game. The players also aim to enjoy tennis and their time on the court.

“[You have to] keep your head up no matter what,” senior Tara Troung said. “Have fun on the court. It’s important to have fun wherever you are, on and off the court.”

Johnson has been working to prepare the players so they can achieve a successful season and win the final two upcoming tournaments. As the year comes closer to an end, senior athletes reminisce about the memories they’ve made.

“[My advice is to] work hard, try your best, and have a great time doing it every day,” Johnson said. “We work hard in practice on different ways to compete and win against your opponent. In match play, they are prepared and have the skills they need.”
