Softball history was made sliding across home plate last weekend to advance the team, for the first time, past regional quarterfinals and into regional semifinals.
The Farmers [ranked 20th in state by Maxpreps.com] will take on the Lubbock Coronado Mustangs [ranked ninth in state]. Coronado is also ranked fourth in 5A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. The best of three series will be played at Abilene Christian University and begins tonight at 8 p.m. Last weekend, the Farmers swept Waco Midway in Glen Rose, two games to none.
“I feel very confident about our upcoming game,” senior first baseman Morgan Mitchell said. “I have no doubt in my mind that we will come out with another victory and advance on.”
Game two will be Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three to follow at 3 p.m. if necessary.
In seven playoff games, the Farmers have scored 54 runs and only allowed 16, including three shutout victories. The Mustangs have scored 44 runs and given up 19 in eight games.
“They have a good pitcher and she has a good riseball,” junior outfielder Kacie Saucedo said. “They are a decent hitting team, but that can’t stop us from beating them.”
Marcus [15th in state according to Maxpreps.com] will taking on the Keller Indians [ranked 36th] in the other semifinal round. If both Marcus and Lewisville win, they will face off in the regional championship.
