Coming off a 40-37 win against Coppell [3-20 overall, 0-10 in district] last Friday, the Lady Farmers [14-13, 4-6] are taking on Hurst L.D. Bell tonight [25-2, 13-1] at Byron Nelson High School at 7 p.m. for the first round of playoffs.

L.D. Bell’s only two losses have been against Flower Mound [18-11, 8-2] and Irving MacArthur [22-6, 11-3].  L.D. Bell lost 47-38 against Flower Moun, and 54-51 to Irving MacArthur.

Last year in playoffs, the Lady Farmers took a 4-24 record to face Colleyville Heritage High School who had a record of 26-4. The Lady Farmers beat Colleyville Heritage 37-34 in an upset that made the front pages of DFW news sites and the school’s “Wall of Fame.”

“We don’t worry about that [being a lower seed playing a top seed from another district] because on any given day, any team can be beat,” head coach Charlotte Jones said. “We proved that last year.”

The team has been focusing on stopping Bell’s two key players. Cierra Johnson is averaging 17.2 points per game and Lexi Gordon with 12.6 points per game, according to Dallas Morning News.

Jones gave her keys to success.

“Play pressure defense, play aggressive, and box out consistently,” Jones said.

Senior Elizabeth Simon said she plans to be a part of that pressure defense.

“I frustrate people in the game,” Simon said. “I’m like a gnat flying around your face and it’s funny to me that someone can throw their game off because I’m irritating them.”
