Column: The ones who…
Staffer tells about her friendships
Friends.
They’re the ones who cheer you up when you’re sad. They’re the ones who drive you crazy. They’re the ones who are always there for you.
But not all friendships last forever.
This year I’ve come to realize who my true, real friends are.
They are the ones I go visit at their table during block lunch. The ones I see in the morning and hug. The ones that come see me after school in the hallway. The ones I talk to during my passing period, making myself late to class. The ones I actually trust. The ones who listen to what I have to say and always have my back.
I don’t have a lot of friends anymore. I’ve lost some of them due to the fact that I was being myself and told the truth.
But the few friends I do have, I wouldn’t trade them for anything/anyone else in the world.
Each one of them has something unique and interesting about them, and I love being around them. They accept me for the weird, crazy person I am, and point out good things about myself and tell me how awesome I am.
I’ve been through a lot of stuff in life, and they all help me cope with my issues rather than making them into bigger ones.
I’m into a bunch of stuff: sports, social media, school, music, writing, art and concerts, etc. (which is kind of a lot), but they know how to connect with these subjects and don’t make me feel like an outsider. They make me feel like I fit in with them, even if we are complete opposites.
You will know when you have a true friend. When you see them, they make you smile. Not that fake smile you give to old friends you had back in kindergarten or to random teachers in the hallway, but a real, genuine smile. Everything is peaceful between y’all and there aren’t any offset vibes.
Yes, you may have arguments, but nothing can break a true bond. If it didn’t last, then it was never meant to be.
I hope to have these friends for life.
