Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major, and why that major?
A: “I’m going to the University of Texas at Arlington for mechanical and energy engineering.I chose it because I want to go into the aerospace industry, and I’ve always been interested. I’ve always known I was going to go into something in STEM , I’ve always felt engineering was the best fit for me because I took a lot of classes in high school that introduced me to the topics.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “My extracurriculars I’ve been in SAPP, which is Students Against Period Poverty. I had an officer position, and then Interact.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “Balancing extracurriculars in school is hard because it’s not like extracurriculars, it’s just clubs and stuff and sports. I’m in tennis too, which counts as an extracurricular. The most challenging part about it was just finding time because you know there have been times where you’re busy doing something all day, and it’s easy to fall behind in school.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “Sophomore year AP chemistry. It was the hardest class I’ve ever taken in my life. The content wasn’t the hardest part about it, it was the amount of work you had to do in the class. It was my most difficult class I’ve ever taken, but it was my favorite to this day. I love the teacher, Mrs. McKay, and my classmates. I loved the coursework. It took a lot of time and effort and was really tough.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “My friend Kathryn, who is the valedictorian. Being friends with her has really made me push myself to do better in school and do better in class. She is just a really good role model, obviously, she’s such a high achiever. “I see her take all these classes and stuff. I’m going to go do that too definitely for where I’m at this point right now, she helped me the most just in class and outside of class.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “Spending time with my friends, all the laughs we had in class, all the cries, just all the people I’ve met throughout the years whether good relationships or bad relationships.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “Just be yourself, don’t let anybody tell you who you can’t be or who you should be.Just live your life to the fullest, put yourself out there and don’t take what anybody says to heart.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “High school is nice. You’ve been going to school with the same people for 12 years since kindergarten. It’s going to be nice to see a bunch of new faces. That’s what I’m most excited for is meeting a bunch of new people and dorming and stuff.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “I honestly wouldn’t change that much. I had a great time, but if I had to change, I probably would have applied myself a little bit more. It’s easy to get into the mentality of laziness. There’s some things I missed out on that day but people should just apply themselves a little bit more.
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “I want to go into aerospace. Hopefully I land a decent job in that industry. I’ve always been interested in being a pilot. I want to work on airplanes or at least something in aerospace, and hopefully I’ll be an engineer.”
