Farmers to tame Broncos
Farmers play defining game for last seed in playoffs against McKinney Boyd
Lewisville [4-4 overall, 3-3 district] faced a tough loss against Plano East [6-2, 4-2], putting the team in a necessary win position against McKinney Boyd [4-4, 3-3] tonight.
Last Friday the Fighting Farmers started the game with two drives in two quarters that both ended in 31 and 45 yard field goals by senior Matthew McDonald. With weather conditions holding both teams down to a forced running game, Plano East stacked up the line with eight defenders on the line of scrimmage and made East wide receiver Audie Omotosho defend the Farmer passing threat, Tyrell Shavers. This caused the Farmers to only score one touchdown the entire game and score no points in the third quarter.
“The rain took some of the game away from us,” head coach Gregg Miller said. “It took a lot from them too. It would have been a completely different game in the dry. The biggest problem we had was we left too many points out there. We had two drives that ended in field goals and a touchdown that got called back.”
Lewisville played defense well with four forced fumbles but only one recovery. With the offense not being able to push forward, the defense was forced to stay on the field longer than usual, tiring them out quicker in the game.
“This is the worst game we have played,” Miller said. “We are a family. When one side of the family fails or struggles, the other side holds it up. This time, both sides fell and we couldn’t get back up.”
McKinney Boyd is a must win for the Farmers if they wish to continue into playoffs. Players and coaches alike are aware of the tight situation and are mentally and physically preparing.
“We put the loss down,” senior captain Denzel Okafor said. “We need to get ready for the next game. We have the potential to make it into the playoffs, and we need to keep moving and be mentally strong.”
