The girls soccer season began on Monday, Jan. 2, with their first game ending 2-2 against Fossil Ridge. The most recent game was on Tuesday, Feb. 10, finishing with a 3-2 loss against Little Elm. While soccer games are meant to be fun, they also come with high stakes. Before significant games, team members have their own ways of preparing to make sure they perform their best.
“I mentally and physically prepare for a game by sticking to a schedule I have for myself,” junior Kassidi Johnson said. “I first make sure I get enough sleep, dress comfortably, then I have my pre-game meals which are high in carbs.”
Even with preparation, each player still has their own struggles and weaknesses.
“One of my weaknesses would be I can get nervous and lose the ball sometimes,” junior Melissa Ramirez said. “My strength is I can communicate with anyone on the field.”
The girls soccer team members all have different mental and physical skills. However, they have to be able to work together on the field even if they face challenges.
“My strength is being able to get out of tight spaces,” Johnson said. “My weakness is getting hurt easily. My biggest challenge was recovering from an ACL tear. I overcame it by always wanting to get back on the field.”
With each team member having their own unique abilities, they can face challenges on the field. Despite their differences, they know how to come together and help better themselves.
“We were winning, but we went into penalties,” senior Sarahi Dominguez said. “[After] Fossil Ridge tied it up, we all felt really defeated because we could’ve won the whole game, but we just kept going and finished the game.”
