After losing to Flower Mound Friday night and placing fifth in their tournament on Saturday, the boys’ wrestling team plans to improve before its next match.

“[To improve] we need to go up a weight with the whole team or the two guys need to make their weights,” junior Benjamin Wood said.

This season has brought many problems with the team having six starters absent due to injuries.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries so it’s been a long and challenging season so far,” head coach Noel Peterson said.

Senior captain Jordan Haskins plans to make the team work harder to keep their weight in check and pay more attention to their matches.

“My team has been doing really good but they could pick up their slack,” Haskins said. “[We’re] having trouble keeping their heads in the match.”

Even though lots of new members have joined the team, it’s the older wrestlers job to make sure they understand the basics in their training.

“Being a leader is really important so you can show everyone how and when to do stuff,” Wood said. “That is how I got better from the captains last year and I’m trying to get a lot of our guys into the basic things.”

Planning to do the best they can, the boys’ next tournament, Lake Highlands Quad, will be at Lake Highlands on Friday, Dec. 29.

“I hope that everyone that was out comes back,” Wood said. “But I hope [we win] at least four or five [matches].”
