Student Council is presenting the King and Queen of Hearts. Students are taking action by raising funds for the American Heart Association, supporting a nonprofit cause that focuses on keeping people’s hearts healthy and preventing heart disease and strokes for all ages.
In order to qualify to compete, students filled out a form to get nominated. The six boys and six girls who received the most votes were then challenged to carry a bucket and gain the most amount of donations. Students will be taking donations through Feb. 12.
“I wanted to participate because all the funds go toward a good cause, and we are raising money for heart disease,” senior StuCo officer Sophia Wong said. “I think we can make a change.”
The King and Queen of Hearts is about kindness and healthy living, inspiring others to give thoughtfully.
“I think it was just the competitiveness of it all [that made me want to participate],” senior Rodrigo Carrillo said. “I wanted to compete, but I also wanted to do it for a good cause, so this was a place where I could use my competitiveness for a good thing. I just like running for things.”
Those who raise the most money will be crowned during lunch on Friday, Feb.13. Students have been enjoying the competition so far and will continue to raise money for those in need.
“My personal goal to raise is $100 if possible,” Wong said.
Overall, the main goal is to bring more awareness to the American Heart Association.
“I hope to see a lot of people donating in order to have the organization raise awareness so people can be more aware of the causes of disease,” senior Lewis Mocha said.
