Tomorrow X Together is a Korean boy band who focus on pop/alternative music and released its newest album Monday, Nov. 4 called “The Star Chapter: Sanctuary.” The band released a mini album ‘Minisode 3: TOMORROW’ on April 1. Fans were caught off-guard by the group, not expecting another album in the same year and how the teasers for the music videos didn’t “meet their expectations” of what a normal video of theirs looks or sounds like. A fan of the band ‘EnderKeenan’ on AOTY stated that “I really don’t know how I feel about this album or the group as a whole anymore. I love TXT, I always will, and I enjoyed their last album a lot more than most. But I was so worried about this release. The whole concept for this album seems like a mess, and the promotions for it have seemed weirdly muted.”
Their first track, “Higher Than Heaven,” starts with a strong beat, bass and drums heard in the background. They begin to sing as they create a beautiful transition to low to high vocals. As they get closer to the pre-chorus, they begin to harmonize about how a person’s eyes shine bright in the light and how the group can’t stop staring, pulling them closer to the person. They continue to sing of a “starlight that protects us, to a place farther than paradise.” The following song, “Forty One Winks,” starts off with an R&B beat and a slight robotic voice in the background, getting straight into the lyrics. They seem to be missing someone dearly, seeing them in the simplest things and wishing they were with them since they’re in different cities.
“Over The Moon,” starts off with an up-beat type of vibe with both high and low vocals. The lyrics mainly talk about how you can miss someone so much. A lyric that symbolizes this really well is “without you, I’m still so afraid, so drained, even the stars might fall asleep” and “I’m with you, you with me, only when we’re together, will tomorrow become reality.” The following track, “Heaven,” starts with an almost techno beat that leads to a pop type of beat. It then goes on to have subtle drums in the background as the members sing and whistle. A fellow fan stated that “although an enjoyable listen, ‘Heaven’ does lack the same punch of personality we know from other TXT songs and feels as if it could easily fit into another K-pop group’s album.” The lyrics say how a first kiss can make people feel inside, hinting at the word heaven. The members sing repeatedly “the moment we touch, you do, you do, you make me feel like heaven.”
One track that deeply resonates with audiences is, “Resist (Not Gonna Run Away),” which immediately starts with them singing and then a soft guitar in the back. The song then goes to rapping and a soft beatbox. The song is talking about how obsession truly feels when you’re in love with someone. The song itself is pretty up-beat, it has a nice tone and catchy lyrics. The lyrics that really stood out to the audience were, “I can’t exist, without you” and “Cause I don’t want to live without ya.”
The last song of the album, “Danger,” begins with a bass solo and low beats as one member whispers “Tomorrow X Together.” It then changes to lofi beats and soft singing, along with a few high vocals. The song circles around the belief that an obsession can become dangerous once all you can think of is them. A lyric that really resonates with the audience is “You’re my ride or die, I don’t hesitate”. The song overall is really catchy and it’s perfect for an event and hanging out at home.
Even if Tomorrow X Together isn’t the ‘newest’ thing, debuting on March 4th, 2019 with their first debut single ‘Crown,’ fans still give the same love and support to their songs and members. Currently on their most recent tour — Act: Promise and touring all over the world, the fandom is just ecstatic about their new music. Overall, “The Star Chapter: Sanctuary”, is definitely a 10 out of 10.
