Farmers prepare to move the ball forward against the Flower Mound Jaguars.

The Farmers [3-3 overall, 2-2 in district] come off a much needed win against Flower Mound [1-6, 0-4] to prepare for their homecoming game tonight at 7:30 against the Plano West Wolves [2-4, 1-3].

Lewisville fell behind early in the game last Friday by giving away a touchdown three minutes in. This set the Farmers up for a struggling first quarter. It wasn’t until halftime that the score flipped making it 17-14 with Lewisville in the lead. Quarterback Aubreion Bobb recalls the struggle the team had in the first half.

“It was definitely a rough first half, but coach kept us in there,” Bobb said. “It obviously paid off.”

This win pushes them into a tied fourth place in district with McKinney Boyd [3-3, 2-2], and it gives the team a bigger possibility to make playoffs.

Despite the back and forth wins, head defensive coordinator Austin Kaehn believes the team has prepared well enough for this season, and as a result we are seeing a better team than years past.

“We put them through a really tough off-season,” Kaehn said. “Now that we have the system put into place, the guys have developed some toughness about them, and each year we get better and better. It’s definitely showing on Friday nights, especially when the game gets tough.”

Plano West’s record may not present a threat, but they shouldn’t be counted out. Last week the Wolves played at home against the district’s second place team, Marcus High School [6-1, 4-1], and held the Marauders to 23 points while the Wolves scored 21. Lewisville will have to continue to play consistently well in order to clinch fourth place.

“We did a good job pressuring the quarterback last week,” senior corner Christian Gamble said. “We just need to continue to do that from now on. Obviously it’s worked for us in the games that we have won so far.”

With defense leading the way for the Farmers this season, Plano West will be another obstacle on the way to playoffs.

Come out tonight to watch the Fighting Farmers face Plano West at Goldsmith Stadium at 7:30.
