Q: How long have you been wrestling?

A: “Since eighth grade.”

Q: What sparked your interest for wrestling?

A: “I did other fighting sports like taekwondo, boxing and stuff like that. It was just something that was new. I had seen people do it before at my gym and I thought it looked fun, so I started doing that.”

Q: What’s your goal from now until next year for wrestling?

A: “I really want to make it to state. I need to lose around 20 pounds for wrestling to weigh 138.”

Q: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in wrestling?

A: “Probably having to lose weight. I’ve had to lose 11 pounds in a day before, and that sucked. Also, last year I got hurt. I got a concussion and my brain started bleeding. I almost died and had to go into surgery. I shouldn’t actually be wrestling now, but I am. I was out for six months. So that would have to be my biggest challenge I’ve had in wrestling; getting injured like that then having to come back and relearn a lot of the stuff.”

Q: Who inspires you? Why?

A: “My mom because she basically raised me by herself and always did what she could to make ends meet. She doesn’t mess around and she’s very straight up with me. I just have a lot of respect for her as my mom and a woman.”

Q: What motivates you to do what you do?

A: “My dad because my dad has told me before that I wasn’t going to be anything in my life.”

Q: Do you plan to do wrestling in college?

A: “No. They expect you to drop too much weight and I can’t do that. I plan on being able to eat in college.”

Q: What sacrifices have you had to make for wrestling?

A: “Working. I try to work a lot but I can’t because I have wrestling. [It doesn’t allow] a lot of free time for doing other things.”
