Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major, and why that major?
A: “I’m going to the University of Texas at Austin, and I plan to major in business. However, freshman year, it’s unspecified, but I hope to get into finance. I want to either double major or minor in government. I find politics really interesting, and my ultimate goal is to attend law school.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “For the past four years I have been part of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Interact and Mock Trial. I was also part of a student leadership experience at the district and eventually got to intern for the district. I have been in orchestra, track, Student Against Period Poverty, Junior World Affairs Council, UIL spelling and vocabulary team. My favorite organization I’m part of is Interact. I bonded a lot with the officers. It feels good when you work with people that have a set goal in mind. I think it makes the job easy, and we barely argue because we share the same ideas.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “The most challenging aspect is definitely taking care of my mental health, especially sophomore and junior year. It was a huge crash. I feel like it’s a lot better now. I’ve been able to manage and balance everything better. There would be times where I would try and prioritize one thing over the other or try to give equal energy to every single thing, and I believe that’s just impossible.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “I would say AP World because it was my first AP class. It took me a while to get adjusted and get used to the program. The style of writing was the hardest for me, but I feel like my teacher making the class challenging actually helped me a lot. It helped me improve my work ethic and how I complete my assignments. When I got my AP score, I was very surprised but also happy.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “I would say my French teacher, Ms. Henry, has helped me a lot. I was in her French class sophomore year and this year as well. I feel like I just could just come to her for anything. Whenever I’m stressed about something or extracurriculars, she always helps. She helps me stay grounded and helps me find solutions to my problems. Also, whenever I needed help with my essays, she helped me with that as well.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “The dances because I become a different person when I’m with my friends and dancing.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “My advice would be don’t take school so seriously. I feel like school should be taken seriously to an extent, but I also feel like you should have fun as well. High school actually does go by really fast, therefore you should really enjoy every second. I really enjoyed my freshman year because I didn’t feel any pressure. After that, I was taking school more seriously and that was not necessary because now I’m a senior I still take school seriously, but I feel more free. I think when you feel more free, you do better.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “I’m excited about the beds because I’m sleeping in a twin right now, and in college, I’m going to sleep on an XL, which is an upgrade. I’m excited about getting my independence and being my own adult. My independence is currently pretty decent, but I can’t wait to be responsible for myself. This will be my first chance to actually live on my own and depend on myself, so I’m kind of happy about that. Lastly, I’m excited for Austin City Limits.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “This is going to sound corny, I don’t think I would change a thing. Honestly, if anything, I would try not to procrastinate as much. But then again, I’m very hard on myself, so I think you should take things a little bit easier.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “In 10 years, I hope to be done with law school and finally practice intellectual property law or anything similar to that path. I would also love to travel the world.”
