Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major, and why that major?
A: “I’m going to the University of Texas at Austin. I’m majoring in mechanical engineering because it’s the foundation for everything we do, everything we drive, everything in our day-to-day lives.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “The main ones that have stuck out to me are golf and Student Council. I love golf because I get to be with my teammates. I have a good time with my teammates at every practice and every tournament. With StuCo, it was all about showing up in school spirit at events we volunteered at.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “The most challenging was golf because it’s a very demanding sport. Our golf team has practice every day. Even when we don’t have school, we still go to practice. During StuCo, we were outside of school volunteering at games and events in school spirit, which was fun doing.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “Calculus is completely different since it’s a big jump from pre-calculus and algebra. I have to carry everything I learned from algebra and apply it to calculus. I’ll probably say chemistry as well, because it was a foreign topic when I started. I only knew the table of elements, so it was a completely different subject.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “The biggest people who have helped me were Coach Yanda and Coach Lourie, since they were always there for me. My friends Greyson, John, Mark and Cam are my whole support group. When I needed a break from school, they’ve always been there. We will go out and play pickleball and basketball. They have been there to get me back on my feet. Mr. Gonzalez was always there to help me with my college essays, and with everything.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “The golf trip was one of the memorable experiences, just being with the guys for three days, decompressing, playing golf and having fun with everybody that matters to me. Second was the football games each Friday because I would always have a fun time with the people around me.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “I would tell myself to keep pushing because everything will eventually work out, it’s God’s plan and I live with it. I don’t have any control over what I do and I just go with the flow.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “I’m most excited about the new experiences and being away from home. Since I spent 18 years in Lewisville, it’s going to be a big change to move to Austin.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “I wouldn’t change anything since everything has worked out for me.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “In the next 10 years, I’ll hopefully move back to Lewisville, get settled down with my family, be in my prime, think about my future [and] plan for my future family.”
