‘Glee’ still inspires lovers, haters in season 3

Glee still inspires lovers, haters in season 3

Gleek or Freak? That is the real question here.

The third season of “Glee” has surprised and worried some Gleeks concerning the truckload of changes occurring within the cast, such as Quinn’s new personality and the future graduation of the current characters.

“I think this season has kept what made ‘Glee’ great, while adding new, funny elements – though I thought the ‘new’ Quinn was unnecessary,” sophomore David Rabalais said.

One disadvantage with a high school TV show is that eventually the students must graduate and be replaced with new characters, or the show will just be cancelled.

“I know there’s a lot of controversy that they have to get rid of some of the old people,” freshman Kalee Grimsley said.

“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy has announced that after the students’ graduation in 2012, a new group of kids will be introduced. The show’s creators hope the Gleeks will stay true to their favorite show based on what they’ve seen over the first three seasons.

“I like it because it’s just different and everyone has their own personalities and they sing,” Grimsley said.

Granted, Grimsley is in choir, but a Gleek is a Gleek. She said she isn’t addicted, but she does own several “Glee” products, including a foam finger, CDs, Season One, and a shirt.

Some viewers are under the impression that “Glee” is full of fake high school scenarios, like when the Glee kids break out into random song during class.

“Some people think that it’s not always true to the high school, but it’s good to watch, so it doesn’t really have to be true all the time,” sophomore Erica Ayles said.

Gleek or freak, black or white. There’s very little gray area; you either love it or you hate it.

“Pretty much, they do terrible covers of terrible songs, so that’s just making a show that’s all kinds of terrible even worse,” senior Harley Chambers said.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

“Some people don’t like singing I guess,” Grimsley said.

Although some of the episodes are full of popular songs, they cover more than one genre in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience.

“My music genre that I enjoy is metal,” Chambers said. “I don’t want to listen to Lady Gaga sung by 30 high school kids. And why do they have to have a theme for every episode? C’mon, change it up a bit.”

Most teenagers could agree there are some things “Glee” could improve on, but it all depends on your taste of music.
