Review: ‘FIFA 17’ entertains with emotions, suspense

Newest edition is best of collection so far

Soccer fans anxiously awaited the newest edition to the FIFA collection, “FIFA 17.” It was released on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and has set the bar high for future FIFA games.

An addition that many fans have been looking forward to is “The Journey.” It’s a gameplay that allows players to be a fictional character named Alex Hunter, and they decide what team he’ll play on throughout his career. While progressing through the story mode, it is up to the player to control how Hunter responds when he is asked questions. It is intense and escalating when witnessing how Hunter grows up as a kid and how he rises as a super star. He grows up with his lifelong friend Gareth Walker, and they both make it to the big leagues. Throughout his phase of becoming a rising star, Hunter is mentored and advised by big-name players like Marco Reus, Harry Kane and Angel Di Maria.

One feature that has been significantly enhanced from last year’s game is the appearance of the stadiums and other little details that are added. Fireworks, confetti cannons and tunnel archways have been included to replicate a soccer stadium with realistic-like features.

Another new edition to the outstanding graphics is the face scan of each player. EA Sports worked with a company named Frostbite to scan the faces of each player to make them as realistic as possible. During the face scanning of the players, they also included emotions to show facial expressions during the gameplay. The player shows faces of frustration, joy and pain, and the celebration of each player can be seen whenever they score. Included with this new feature is all 20 coaches from the Barclays Premier League (England) on the sideline every game.

The only downfall to the game is that the system will crash sometimes while playing the online matches. Despite this, “FIFA 17” still deserves a 10/10; it’s definitely worth trying out, especially for FIFA fanatics.
