Fighting for a win to keep their season alive, the Farmers will face up against the Denton Guyer Wildcats for the second time tonight at 7:30 at Argyle High School.

Last night the Farmers dropped their first playoff loss, 1-0 to the Wildcats, despite the fact that only two hits were given up by junior pitcher Maribeth Gorsuch. It was a tie game until Guyer’s Shayne Starkey drove in a runner in the bottom of the third inning, giving the Wildcats the only score of the game.

Guyer had an 11-3 district record before knocking out Plano West and South Grand Prairie to reach the regional round. The Wildcat’s best hitters include junior Tara Solomon [.500 avg. according to Dallas Morning News], Hannah Hodapp [.397 avg., 23 RBIs], and junior Maddie Green [.368 avg., 18 RBIs].

This regional round is a best-of-three series making tonight’s game a win-or-go-home situation for the Farmers. The regional round was where Lewisville’s season met its end last year against Mansfield Timberview. Junior infielder Tommi Goodman said she hopes for different results this year.

“Last year and this year there is a lot of pressure, because we are expected to do well,” Goodman said. “We definitely wanna come back stronger, and make it farther this year.”

Head softball coach Lori Alexander said that even though the competition is getting tougher, she feels her team is ready.

“I think that our experience in the playoffs from the past couple of years will be to our benefit,” Alexander said. “We know now what to expect, and I feel like our fans will make a huge difference as well.”
