ZOOMING IN
Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major, and why that major?
A: “I’m attending UT and majoring in psychology, hoping to pursue grad-school afterward. Growing up, I loved listening to true crime podcasts and researching unresolved cases. I grew interested in psychology and neuroscience, wanting to learn the science behind our thoughts and how our environment affects our upbringing.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “I’m the Student Body Senior Class Project Officer of Student Council and the Liaison of Students Against Period Poverty club. I’m a member of Interact, Junior World Affairs Council, NHS and TRIO, and I play the viola in orchestra.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “Clubs usually meet biweekly, so it wasn’t difficult to attend in the morning or before after school. The only difficult club to balance was Student Council because we planned and worked at many school events. Staying up late every night doing assignments was the most challenging part, but I learned waking up early was a better method.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “AP Statistics was the most challenging class because it was online. I received my first B in that class and struggled to learn through the APEX videos. I took it in the fall semester and had to self study for the AP exam.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “My mother and father have supported me the most throughout high school. They show up to all my orchestra concerts and work around my busy schedule. My parents are my biggest supporters, and I could not have survived high school without them.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “Friday night football games have been my most memorable days, as well as spirit days. Watching the BOTA football game my freshman year was my favorite, as it was the first year we won the axe back.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “I would tell my freshman self to not be embarrassed about anything and find ways to enjoy studying rather than trying to maintain all A’s. I would tell her to practice the viola more and focus on herself rather than compare to others.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “I’m excited to dorm with my future best friend and experience the social life there. I’m also excited to decorate my dorm and find which study spot I work best at.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “If I could change anything, I would change my embarrassed mindset. I would tell my past self to go all out for the spirit days and make the most out of every class. I would encourage myself to talk to more people and make new friends.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “I hope to see myself still hanging out with my friends and family, while having a stable job as a pediatric behavioral specialist. Maybe I’ll have a pet cat and healthy hair after damaging it so long with heat.”
